United Way of Western Crawford County Update: A Note from the Executive Director - April 2020

SERVING OUR COMMUNITY DURING COVID-19

It is important that you know what our United Way of Western Crawford (UWWCC) team is doing to help our neighbors in need during this time!

Our team has taken protective measures to make sure our staff and volunteers stay healthy and can continue to serve those who may now need us more than ever.  While our office building is closed to the public, UW personnel are working remotely on researching and securing grant opportunities for local non profit partners.  Imagination Library registration events, as well as Global Youth Service Day activities have been postponed until further notice.  UWWCC has also halted all current Community Improvement Center critical home repair/modification projects.  Applications will still be accepted, but will be placed on a waiting list until site visits can be safely conducted by our volunteers and contractors.

Recently, grant funds through United Way Worldwide partner, TRUIST Foundation, have been secured to assist in funding local food pantries.  Those initial funds will be dispersed this week.  These grant funds are in addition to an agency’s 2020 allocation funded by community campaign pledges.  There is absolutely NO reduction or holds on any of the 2020 allocations designated through the United Way campaign.  We will continue to advocate for our agencies and apply for any available grant opportunities that may assist in serving Western Crawford County residents in need. United Way is awaiting notification on a number of grants, including childcare scholarships for essential workers.

The UWWCC Community Investment Committee will lengthen the opportunity for local nonprofits to apply for 20/21 programs in the Fall.  This will allow any interested nonprofits to assess their programs and amend any applications that they may have in progress to better address the ever-changing needs of their clients.

UWWCC is grateful for the community’s generous support and want to be transparent in all of our decisions. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with questions or concerns. As this is a fluid situation, we are doing our best to make these decisions from a place of reason and not fear.

Crawford County residents are some of the strongest people during times of crisis and will come through this even stronger. Just as you care about your community, please know how much we care for you and your families.

Sincerely,

Marisa Lines, Executive Director
